The Genger Prize for Excellence - awarded annually to a TALI Principal.
The winner of the Shraga and Devorah Genger award in 2002 for excellence in TALI leadership, awarded annually to a TALI school principal is Ms. Nava Tal, principal of the TALI Ramat Moriah Elementary School in Jerusalem.
Nava's odyssey as a Jewish educator began with the realization that the pupils at Ramat Moriah were ignorant of their heritage as Jews, and even more problematic, that she and her staff needed background, guidance and training in order to begin resolving this problem.
In 1998 Ramat Moriah joined the TALI network, and within 5 years was transformed into a school community with a strong Jewish learning environment helping to shape the Jewish identities of its pupils and their families.
Nava Tal's initiative, leadership, and success in guiding her school community for a sustained period with limited resources provide a model for all "secular" educators who are committed to Jewish education in a pluralistic framework.
