In 1998 the TALI Education Fund (TEF) opened an Early Childhood Division responsible for TALI Jewish Educational programming.
The number of pre-school and kindergarten classrooms has grown in five years to 70 at the start of the 2003/4 school year. Over 2,000 children are served by TALI early childhood education in 21 communities located all over Israel.
The Challenge
Early childhood frameworks in Israel tend to be defined as either secular or religious in nature, yet there is a growing trend within Israeli society to address the need for a pluralistic Jewish Educational approach within the Educational system.
The TALI Educational network of schools and kindergartens has succeeded in creating a Jewish milieu for those families seeking an enriched Jewish education for their children in a pluralistic and non-coercive atmosphere.
The move to open the Early Childhood Division demonstrates TEF's belief that Israel is in need of a pluralistic Jewish Educational approach from this earliest stage of the young child's education outside of the home environment and clearly reflects the belief that a child's early experiences have great impact on consequent development and as such, on the development of his/her Jewish identity.
