The Challenge of Developing TALI Teachers  |
TEF offers the following support

TEF offers the following support to the staffs of our schools:

1. TALI Pedagogical counseling: A supervised counseling program guides the implementation of TALI programs in schools. TALI pedagogical counselors spend a full school day in each TALI school between 2-4 days per month. The counselor functions in two capacities:

a. as a consultant to the principal and lead staff in the assessment of needs, setting of objectives, and allocation of resources.
b. meeting regularly with teachers to develop lesson plans, evaluate classroom experience, and introduce and demonstrate the use of TALI Educational resources.
TEF currently employs 13 counselors on a full-time or part-time basis. TALI pedagogical counselors attend professional development seminars, and receive monthly group supervision.

2. TALI Leadership Training Program: The course, with separate tracks for Jewish studies coordinators and principals, is designed to train administrators and key teachers to supervise and oversee the curricular changes necessary for creating and sustaining a TALI school. The in-service course is conducted once a week for a full day over two years and includes three three-day in-residence seminars.

Areas of study include enrichment courses in Jewish studies and Jewish education, as well as seminars on strategic planning, the learning environment, staff supervision, and curricular development. Schechter Institute faculty members teach most courses and participants may use academic components (6 semester courses per year) towards credit for an M.A. degree in Jewish Studies.

In 2003/4 there are 42 TALI principals and Jewish studies coordinators from 22 TALI schools attending the TALI Leadership Program.

3. Teacher Room Workshops for All TALI Teachers: Courses in Jewish studies and Jewish education are conducted for the whole staff of each TALI school, mainly through the format of "Teachers Room Workshops" and through in-residence staff study seminars throughout the
